WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

As the first SDET hire at Qualia focusing on UI automation, you will be responsible for maintaining and expanding our automated UI tests written in Cypress. While the test framework is already in place, you will take ownership of the existing suite, ensuring that it remains stable, efficient, and scalable. You’ll also be tasked with triaging failing tests, managing test pipelines within our CI/CD process, and enabling the QA team to independently manage and maintain the test suite going forward.

Additionally, you will be involved in test reporting and implementing best practices for test writing, maintenance, and troubleshooting across the engineering team. Your work will help maintain the quality and reliability of Qualia’s web applications, and you’ll have a direct impact on improving the overall product experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Test Writing & Maintenance: Write and maintain Cypress-based automated UI tests to ensure full coverage of Qualia’s web applications
Test Triage & Troubleshooting: Actively monitor and triage failing tests, investigating potential issues and collaborating with developers to resolve root causes quickly
CI/CD Collaboration: Monitor and maintain the test pipelines, ensuring smooth and reliable execution of automated UI tests. Triage any issues that arise, and work closely with the Infrastructure team to ensure fast resolution of test-related failures within the CI/CD process
Enablement & Mentorship: Empower the QA team to take ownership of the UI test suite by mentoring them on test writing, best practices, troubleshooting, and the Cypress framework. Help the team become self-sufficient in managing automated UI tests
Test Reporting & Metrics: Use the Cypress Dashboard or equivalent for test reporting and metrics. Provide clear visibility into test results and trends to stakeholders
Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to improve the UI automation framework for better test performance, reliability, and maintainability. Introduce improvements in test strategy and automation tooling where necessary

YOUR BACKGROUND THAT LIKELY MAKES YOU A MATCH

Experience: 4+ years of experience in test automation, with a strong focus on UI testing and Cypress test automation
Cypress Expertise: Extensive experience with Cypress, including writing, maintaining, and debugging automated UI tests. Comfort with expanding the Cypress framework and optimizing tests for speed and reliability
CI/CD Familiarity: Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and experience with integrating automated tests into the pipeline. Able to triage test execution failures in CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions) and collaborate with the Infrastructure team to resolve issues
Test Maintenance: Proven experience in maintaining and triaging automated tests, with an emphasis on ensuring test suite stability and reliability
Mentorship & Collaboration: Strong communication and mentoring skills, with a passion for teaching and enabling others, especially the QA team, in best practices for test automation
UI Automation: In-depth knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and the challenges of UI test automation in modern web applications
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and address issues with failing tests and ensure the health of the test suite
Agile Experience: Comfortable working in an Agile development environment, collaborating in sprints with a focus on continuous improvement and quality
Test Reporting Tools: Familiarity with Cypress Dashboard, GitHub, and/or Jira integrations for test reporting, analysis, and metrics
SaaS or Real Estate / FinTech: Experience with SaaS applications or the real estate or financial technology spaces is a plus
Test Management Tools: Experience with Testrail or other test management tools for managing test cases and tracking test results
While this role is based in San Francisco, California, we're open to exploring remote possibilities for qualified candidates
