Lead Cloud DevOps Engineer ==========================
MISUMI Americas | Oakland, CA (Onsite / Local Candidates Required) Base Salary: $180,000 – $220,000 USD Depending on Experience
MISUMI Americas builds the digital infrastructure behind how the world's hardware gets designed and manufactured. We're looking for a Lead Cloud DevOps Engineer to take ownership of the AWS infrastructure that runs our multi-regional, global platform — someone who wants to be hands-on with CloudFormation and Node.js every day, not just architecting on a whiteboard.
This is a builder's role. You'll lead infrastructure projects end to end — architecture, implementation, debugging, optimization — while writing the Node.js tools and services that keep deployment, monitoring, and platform operations running smoothly. You'll work closely with engineering, security, and product teams to keep our systems reliable, secure, scalable, and cost-efficient as we grow.
This position is based in Oakland, CA. Candidates must be located in Oakland or the greater Bay Area and able to work onsite as required.
What You'll Own ---------------
- Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using CloudFormation as our primary Infrastructure-as-Code tool
- Own and evolve our AWS environments for high availability, scalability, failover, and security
- Lead infrastructure projects from planning through execution, mentoring and guiding a small team
- Build and maintain Node.js–based tools and services for automation, deployment workflows, monitoring, and platform operations
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments
- Set up and manage logging, monitoring, and alerting across our AWS environments
- Perform infrastructure upgrades and improvements while minimizing downtime
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across infrastructure, applications, and CI/CD systems
- Drive initiatives that improve performance, reliability, security posture, and cloud cost efficiency
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, security, and operations
- Maintain clear documentation of infrastructure, automation, and operational processes
- Contribute to and uphold MISUMI Americas' Quality Management System (QMS)
What You Bring --------------
Location & Authorization
- Based in Oakland, CA / greater Bay Area, with the ability to work onsite as required
- U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder)
Experience
- 10+ years in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Systems Engineering
- 5+ years of hands-on, production experience writing Node.js code — building services, automation, or internal tools, not just deploying Node.js applications
- Expert-level, hands-on AWS experience across EC2, Lambda, IAM, VPC, S3, CloudWatch, RDS, CodeBuild, and Elastic Beanstalk
- Extensive, real-world CloudFormation experience: authoring and maintaining complex templates, managing stacks across multiple environments, and handling updates, rollbacks, drift detection, and full stack lifecycle management
- Strong track record designing and operating CI/CD pipelines
- Hands-on experience debugging systems and applications in production
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization
- Solid grasp of AWS security best practices — IAM, networking, encryption, least-privilege access
- Strong Linux systems experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers on infrastructure projects
- Experience operating multi-region or globally distributed AWS environments
- Familiarity with containerized workloads (ECS, EKS)
- Cloud cost optimization / FinOps experience
- Background in fast-growing or high-scale engineering organizations
Compensation & Benefits -----------------------
- Base salary: $180,000 – $220,000 USD (actual offer depends on experience, skills, and role fit)
- Competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) plan
- Parental leave programs
- Paid volunteer days
- And much, much more
Why MISUMI Americas -------------------
You'll work on real, complex infrastructure that supports the design and manufacturing of physical products around the world. This role puts you in direct ownership of core cloud systems, gives you influence over architectural decisions, and puts you at the center of scaling a global platform.
We’re actively seeking teammates who:
- Bring diverse perspectives and experience to our culture and company.
- Excel at being part of a strong, empathetic team.
- Thrive in an environment emphasizing respect, honesty, collaboration, and growth.
- Have an ‘always learning’ mindset that celebrates learning, not just wins.
- Help us continue to build a world-class organization that values the contributions of all of our teammates
We encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups, including but not limited to women, members of the LGBTQ community, people of color, people with disabilities, and veterans.
