Job Description

Job Summary:

Researches, plans, and designs and analyzes mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems used in industrial applications.   Will at times be required to lead small engineering team (3-5 engineers) providing technical leadership, oversight and direction to the engineering team plus will be the primary interface to the Program Manager and/or lead project engineer.

Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as automated industrial systems and equipment, engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, mechanisms, pressure vessels, process piping systems, gloveboxes etc.  Required to be proficient working with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, preparing hand calculations, thermal, stress and structural analyses using FEA tool ANSYS or equivalent. Performing kinematic and kinetic analyses using multibody dynamics simulation software such as Adams Hexagon a strong plus.  Required to prepare or oversee the preparation of designs for manufacture (DFM).

Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.  Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected determine methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.  Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.  Determines critical methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel.

Primarily works on the design of systems and equipment that support the DOE and commercial nuclear, including Advanced Reactor or Small Modular Reactor (Generation III, III + and Generation IV), fusion reactor and nuclear fuel processing markets.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level engineers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization’s policies and procedures.  This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 5-10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be knowledgeable in using software conducive to presenting analytical results, such as charts, graphs, and presentations using Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
